Children learning today may live well into the 22nd century. During their lives, technologies, economies, communities and relationships with the living world will continue to change.

Festival 2100 gives young people an opportunity to understand how we arrived at the present, experience some of the capacities that have enabled humans to adapt and cooperate, and explore how they can participate in the regeneration transitions ahead.

The Festival does not present a blueprint for the future. It creates a place to investigate, experience, question and contribute.

Travel through the human story

The River System of Human Time turns human history into a physical learning journey.

Students begin with the world around them today and expand their perspective across evolutionary time, different cultures and ways of living, changing technologies and economies, and emerging possibilities for the future.

Students walk the River as an experiential metaphor of the human journey through time. Stories, demonstrations, objects, experiments, challenges and activities bring different parts of the journey to life.
